Hi,

A 4 to 5 mm stone is small and does not need any surgery. It will help to know where exactly is the stone present. Is it in the calyces of the kidney or has is come in to the renal pelvis. Any obstruction in the kidney arising due to the stone has to be regularised. If the stone is in the renal pelvis or ureter then it will come out by itself but can cause severe pain when passing through the urinary passages. Drinking 6 litres of water each day is adequate. A 5 mm stone is not a concern usually unless it is causing obstruction.
