Suggest Remedy To Loose Weight

I am a 72 yr old female. I have limited activity d/t DJD of knees/spine. Developed hypertension, depression about 7 yrs. ago. Diabetes type II approximately 4 yrs. ago. I had been an R.N. for 44 yrs. before retiring 8 yrs. ago.Hysterectomy @ age 39. Spine surgery + knee replacement within past year. Pain level is managed with Venlafaxine & PRN Celebrex.Problem is obesity. BS with oral meds is good. Metformin 500mg bid. Last Hemoglobin 5.6 FBS- with normal limits.Question: any thoughts to how I can lose about 10 lbs. My belly is my issue. I would like to NOT take the Metformin. Thanks.

HI,thanks for using healthcare magic

You can lose weight by modifying diet and exercise. Since it may be difficult for you to exercise enough to lose weight, you can do it mainly by diet modification.

There are 2 main types of diets that can be used to lose weight: (1)low fat/low calorie diet and (2) low carbohydrate diet

In the low fat/low calorie diet- increase the use of fruits and vegetables
(2) switch from normal fat to low fat foods
(3)avoid frying
(4)decrease use of normal sodas/juices -use low calorie options

In low carbohydrate diets- (1) meals consist mainly of protein with salads or low carb vegetables
(2)use 1 to 2 cups of salad and 1 to 2 cups of vegetables a day
(3)use of low calorie drinks, drink a lot of water
(4)use protein snacks such as nuts, cheese, meat, eggs

You can use whichever diet suits you best.
