Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 79yr old mother hoards food. She has 2 fridges, 1 large freezer full to the brim and one pantry bursting with food. Her house is immaculate. My father died in 1994, so she has been a widow for a long time. She spends a lot of money on food especially bread. She has at least 3-4 loaves in the house. She refuses to freeze the bread as she says she hates bread that has been in the freezer. I do not have a close relationship with her as I do feel rather intimidated by her. She speaks to my sister who lives abroad 1-2times a week but not me who lives 5miles away. My relationship with my sister is going downhill as she admits she does not listen to anything I say to her regarding any subject. She especially does not want to know anything about mum's food hoarding.
Your first concern should be the content of the food. As long as the food or bread is within expiry date, its acceptable. Check her bmi and cholestrol profile. If she is a diabetic make sure her blood glucose is under control. Consult a dieticien to make sure she is getting adequate essential nutrition.
