Suggest Safe Alternative For Movicol And Fibergel

Hi There, I have been on Movicol for about 8 years. After trying just about everything to treat it. From countless doctors that put me on probiotics, diet, exercise, antibiotics, anti fungals, anti inflammatory creams, colonoscopies with no real solution. In the last year or two, I think my body is resisting the Movicol and moved to a combination of Movicol and Fibergel. It worked for a small while then I started getting numb like intermittent pains in my left buttocks along with a swollen like pain in my left perineum. Now if I go off the meds I am sure those things will go away but then I sit with severe constipation. I really hope you can help me with this. I ve kind of run out of options.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Welcome to HCM
I understand your concern. Do you know what is considered normal bowel movement? It is passing once in 3 days to 3 times a day. Each person has a normal rhythm within this range. You require medicines only if you fall outside the range.
Eat a wholesome food rich in fiber both soluble and insoluble, drink 12 glasses of water, exercise at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise, practise yoga or other stress relieving measures and you will find that your system would respond better than you hunting for more and more laxatives. The type you are taking ( osmotic ) are the only ones advisable. Never fall into the trap of using irritant purgatives, you would require to take them continuously.
Take Care
