Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My baby is 2.5 months old and weighs 5.4 kgs. She is very gassy and when burped has been spitting up milk (in curdled form). Our Doc suggested giving her Junior Lanzol 15 mg (1/2 a day diluted in water 10 minutes before each feed). Was a worried if it has any side effects & if it can be given to a two and a half month old baby ?
Junior Lanzol contains lansoprazole that belongs to the group of medications known as proton pump inhibitors or PPI is used in the treatment of stomach and intestinal ulcers, esophagitis, acid reflux disease, Zollinger Ellison syndrome etc. This medication is very and effective medication for children if it is used in the dose and duration as directed by the prescribing doctor. But like other people, this medication has some side effects of its own.
Side effects of this medication are nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea or constipation, changes in appetite, allergic reactions etc. These side effects are mild as well as self limiting and usually go away over time without any medical treatment. But any of these side effects persist for long or bother your baby, then you should consult your baby's doctor immediately for medical help.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
