Suggest The Appropriate Dosage Of Synthroid For Higher Than Normal TSH Levels

My spouse recently had lab work done to check his TSH. It was 7.540. He is currently taking Synthroid 150mcg daily. He was diagnosed with dementia last year. Is this the correct dosage for that level and would that have anything to do with his memory loss. His PCP and Neurologist both reviewed these labs and didn t mention anything was abnormal.

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hello,

The TSH is slightly elevated, I would suggest to increase the dose - 175 mcg twice weakly and 150 mcg 5 days per week. It is not the cause of neurologic symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mirjeta Guni, Endocrinologist
