I had a total thyrodectomy 10 years ago. When I go to the surgeon that did the operation, he prescribes me to take 125mcg of Synthroid, but when I go to my regular endocrinologist, he prescribes me to take only 100 mcg. of Synthroid. What shall I do?
yell...i am an endocrinologist,so i trust more the opinion of another endocrinologist for the treatement of the endocrine diseases.Levothyroxine dosage is calculated using a weight (μg/kg)-based formula for patients who underwent thyroidectomy for benign disease. Other formulas using age, sex, ideal body weight, body mass index, and body surface area are less common. A 1.4μg/kg dosage calculation based on actual weight is currently the best estimation for levothyroxine replacement therapy after thyroidectomy.
