I am 74yrs old , I have osteopenia which has worsened even though I took caltrate w/vitamin d x 2 yrs. my Dr. Has recommended Boniva ( I have back problems and have had back surgery. My insurance will not approve Boniva until I have tried Fosamax first. Here is my question... I have a sensitive stomach, some Medes. Hurt my stomach. Especially Ibuprophen, aleve etc. which med. would be easier on my stomach?Boniva, Actonel or Fosamax?? I have had stomach ulcers in past yrs. and sometimes have to take Actifex. Thank you

hi generally drugs like fosamax called bisphosphonates may cause some amount of gastritis, and therefore it is recommended to take them on an empty stomach and to not eat or drink anything for about an hour after taking these drugs.
however if you still suffer gastritis inspite of taking these precautions, there are certain injectaable bisphosphonates availble like zoledronic acid, these are the other option.
