Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter had a febrile seizure a couple of months ago and now has another fever. It s 100.4 right now and she s had it for 2 days. I ve been treating her with Tylenol and Motrin and she has been acting normal. The day she had her seizure, she was very lethargic and sleepy. She s not like that at all, but what concerns me, is that she woke up shaky this morning. Her arms and legs are shaky and I ve never seen her do that before.
Was she febrile when woke up? Is the shaking associated with up rolling of eyes or drooling from mouth? Was she aware/responding then? If it was just shaking, this may be rigor associated with fever. If above mentioned features present, this indicates seizure.
Even if it was seizure, we need not worry much unless it lasts beyond 5 minutes. Febrile seizure is a common and harmless condition. In recurrent cases, I used to give clobazam for 3 days during fever to prevent seizure.
Anyhow, if high grade fever continues beyond 2-3 days, we need evaluation to find out focus of infection and treat accordingly. You can discuss with your pediatrician.
Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.
