Suggest Thyroid Medication To Treat Sudden Fluctuations In The Thyroid Levels

I have been diagnosed with thyroiditis. It started November 7 or so with a sore swollen thyroid, then blood work showed hyperthyroid, some 5 weeks later, hypothyroid. My thyroid numbers have come closer to normal, now T4 is .74, up from .47 on 12/27 (2.06 on 11/09) and my TSH was 82, down from 109.56 on 12/27 (0 on 11/9) so it seems that my numbers are coming back to normal. Should I just wait to see what happens in the next month, or start taking thyroid medication now?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Once it is the thyroid disease being diagnosed then patient has to take the medicine as soon as the medicine goes in system the hormone level start coming to normal range (May take few weeks ) but medicine needs to be taken for long term basis may be life long, if you stop the medicine hormone level becomes abnormal again.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
