Suggest Timeline For Intercourse After Insertion Of Vagifem

I am a 57 year old female using Vagifem twice a week for vaginal dryness. 1) How long after I insert the tablet should I wait before we have intercourse? 2) Should we be concerned about about my husband absorbing estrogen through his penis if we have frequent sex without a condom? And 3) Is oral sex a concern for him if I am using Vagifem on a regular basis? I hope you can help me with these questions because I can t find the answers anywhere! Thank you for your time and assistance.

Vagifem is absorbed through mucosal tissue. It is supposed to work locally and not get into the bloodstream like other types of hormone replacement. Theoretically a small amount of the drug may get into your husband's mucosal tissue (oral or penis), but the amount absorbed should be minimal if any and not a problem to be concerned about. You might want to wait an hour or two after inserting the tablet before having sex. This will allow time for the tablet to dissolve and be absorbed into your tissue. Hope this helps.
