I had an cut on my ankle and it became infected. I applied Neosporin/triple anti biotic ointment and covered it with guaze. After it didn t improve I got a script for augmentin for 10 days. While taking it I continued with the antibiotic ointment treatment. After ten days the wound shrank but not completely heal, so I continued the ointment/wrapping treatment for weeks until the wound tripled in size and it looked like a raw open wound, that would not heal only got larger. In fact I even got a rash on my arms and legs that couldn t have been from the augmentin. I went to the hospital and after they ran a battery of tests they found no infection in my blood, bone, or tissue. A dermatologist saw me and recognized the wound immediately! He said the augmentin cleared the infection, but the neomycin essentially poisoned the skin and was killing it one layer at a time!! He said it only happens around ankles and he sees this at least once a week. The resident doctors and vascular doctors were shocked they had never heard of this. Is this a common thing and why are there no warnings about this on the packages? I m in a lot of pain, will have a nasty scar forever!!
