My 98 year old father (normally in excellent health and still hiking weekly, has developed an extremely sore throat that makes swallowing difficult. The culture came back negative for strep throat. He also says his head feels foggy headachey and pressure buildup but he is not overly dizzy. He also has sero-sanguinous drainage from his ear. He has always had trouble with ear wax build-up and went to his GP on Wednesday to have it syringed. But he awoke in the night with a blood soaked cotton swab in his ear and today I cleaned it twice. He had 1.5 doses of Suprax and 1 dose of Nystatin. His GP advised him to stop the ABX (it was making him very nauseated anyway) but to continue with the Nystatin swish and swallow which Dad hates to take and which Dad is convinced that is what is making him sick. Dad has all his faculties, he is just very weak and tired and very sick right now.
