Suggest Treatment For Crohn S Disease, Back Pain And Symptoms Of Gastroenteritis

I have recently been diagnosed with Crohn s disease. I am not having any severe gastro symptoms, but I have been having back pain -- lower back that is complicating standing up straight and mobility. I have regular chiropractic, but he is now wondering if it could be related to Crohn s, as it appears that my back is ok structurally. Is it sensible to wonder if the Crohn s should be causing back pain and, if so, should I be seeing my gastroenterologist about it, or is it something I should just deal with?

Hi there.

Thanks for your query in HCM. I am Dr.Aliem. I have gone through your post and I understand your concern. I am pleased to answer your query.

Involvement of Joints is a well established association in Crohn's disease. Your symptoms suggest that you are likely suffering from sacroileitis.i.e involvement of bones of your lower back. This problem can't be settled by yourself. Do review with your gastroenterologist. You may need some additional tests, like X-ray of your lumbo sacral spine region, MRI spine and some blood tests. Adjustments of dosage of steroid medications may be needed, if you are already on it.

Hope this helps. If you have further queries, feel free to post them. If you are satisfied with this, do give your feed back.

Take care.
