Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband is 83 years old, has crohns disease, kidney disease with kidney stones a problem and also now is having problems with low BP and also has a pacemaker. He was on Tamusolosin so that he could urinate but due to frequent falls accompanying the low BP was taken off of that and put on Rapaflo. He is a disabled vet but they don t have this medication due to it being so new and it costs $185.56. Is there something comparable available that the veterans might have. We are also paying for amoidardone now so with the two it is getting prohibitive to continue with both drugs.
I understand your concern and let me tell you that Rapaflo is a new drug, with relatively unknown side effects. That being sad, I do not think I would pay that much for a new drug. Although the best affordable alternative would be Flomax, I understand that with your husband's condition it isn't the best choice. A cheaper alternative, with would cost you pennies per day is generic Hytrin. But please check with your husband's doctor first to find out whether it is the right alternative for your husband's condition.
All the best.
