Hello dear,
Welcome to healthcaremagic. I
It seems that your child is suffering from a condition called urticaria. It is an allergic condition of skin characterized by red itchy transient eruptions over body.
Try to rule out the cause of this allergy as prevention is the best remedy.

A short course of prednisolone will not do any harm but repeated intake may lead to a number of side effects.
I prefer to give antihistaminics like Levocetrizine to child first. Deworming is also many a times helpful.
you may discuss this with your treating doctor.
If you have any further query you may ask me.
Stay healthy.
