Hello! I am 29 years old and in a committed relationship and do not have any children. I also do not plan to have children because my boyfriend has had a vasectomy. When I was 26 I was diagnosed with PCOS. At that time I was 220 pounds and I had a period about every 3 months. I lost weight and my period became close to regular. Now I am 175 pounds and I usually get my period every 4 to 6 weeks. My last cycle ended on August 1st and on August 13th I noticed some dark brown discharge on the toilet paler when I used the restroom. at first I was not concerned but then the next day I used a tampon to see what was in there and it was dark brown with small stringy substances that I assumed were blood clots. I did some research and tuned it was a side effect of ovulation but now I am concerned because today is August 17th and the brown discharge is still there. 2 days before I noticed this discharge I had intercourse with my boyfriend and I was in a little bit of pain during and after. Sometimes I notice a very small amount od pink blood after intercourse, and Inoticed it this time. The discharge has a foul odor, but only when I get close to it to check. I have a little cramping, and I have been extremely moody this week. Should I go see a doctor? Or is this normal?
Hello, I have gone through your query and understood the concern. This discharge is not normal. You should see a specialist for a proper clinical evaluation. You also need to have a pap smear, a vaginal and cervical swab, a sonogram of the pelvis preferably in the trans-vaginal route and urinalysis. This is to rule out any pelvic infection and other local causes for the spotting. Spotting associated with ovulation is a fresh bleeding and lasts not more than a couple of days. Moreover, it is not post coital. Further management can be planned accordingly. Wish you good health.
