Suggest Treatment For Parkinson's Disease And Overactive Thyroid
Hello! My dad is 75 and has just been diagnosed with Parkinsons and seems to have deteriorated quite quickly - also has an overactive thyroid, one defective kidney and high blood pressure but bless him is trying his hardest to keep positive! How best can I help my dad and my mum his primary carer who is finding it hard? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks. Andrea
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. For Parkinson disease, levodopa needs to be started. 2. Hyperthyroidism needs to treated with radioactive iodine, once thyroid function is under control, blood pressure control will improve. 3. Blood pressure control also is dependent on renal function. Single kidney needs to maintained well with regular monitoring of GFR and renal function. Medication, particularly ACE inhibitor will be helpful in view of the renal function. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
