Hi I am 32 year old and diagnosed with thyroid Storm. I was hospitalized at Intensive Care Unit for 3 days and discharged after my vital signs became stable . Though I am taking medicine, I am suffering from breath shortness which make me worried. I will highly appreciate if you let me know whether this is normal for patients with thyroid Storm and is there any temporal treatment to relieve this. thanks so much
Hello, I read carefully your concern and understood your query. Severe hyperthyroidism or over active thyroid takes at least 3-4 weeks therapy to see improvement of clinical symptoms. I think that the physicians in charge has given you the appropriate dose of metimazole and beta blockers. What would be an emergency is the persistence of high cardiac rate and hi temperature even on treatment. If these parameters are normalized than no need to worry.
