Hello, my girlfriend is ill and went to the doctor 4 days ago and she was told that she has a bladder infection and excess bacteria in her urinary tract or somewhere in that region. She has been on her medicine for the past 2 days that was given to her yet when she started taking them, she contracted a 103 degree fever, her kidneys hurt, she has a great deal of nausea, along with not being able to eat or drink much food or liquids at all. She is worried that something else is wrong because the medicine isn't working very well at all and she is tired of not feeling any better.
General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. Your girlfriend's problem is most likely urinary tract infection. But it can be complicated with pyelonephritis, affecting kidneys. Antibiotics should be taken for proper duration. Empirically antibiotics should be started initially and change after getting report of culture and sensitivity of urine. In case of suspection of pyelonephritis further kidney function tests will be needed to be done. Hospitalization and intravenous antibiotics will be needed in such case. Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further queries. Thanks
