Suggest Treatment For A BP Level Of 185/93

Yes, my son - age 56 - just called to tell me his blood pressure was 185/93; he has been taking Zicam for his cold, etc. I am on Losartan but refused to give him any of my medication and recommended he be seen at our Urgent Care Center. Your opinion? Thanks! YYYY@YYYY

Hello! You are right on both counts. Your son's blood pressure is high and he requires treatment for that. And second, it is not advisable to share medicines without proper evaluation. I'd suggest that he undergoes routine screening for his high blood pressure - including but not necessarily limited to, blood sugar, lipids, renal and thyroid function and at least an electrocardiogram. After evaluating the results, he may be prescribed the right drug. Hope I have answered your question.
