Suggest Treatment For A Painful Bruise On The Shin

My son has had a pretty ugly bruise on his shin for a couple of days now, today as I was rubbing lotion on it I noticed there was a hard bump behind it. He has his 2 year visit tomorrow afternoon, but I am a nervous wreck and could use some reassurance.

hello
Welcome to HCM.
Firstly I wanted to stress that there's no need to panic. The bruising itself occurs due to the swelling and mild bleeding internally below the skin which caused the dark colour. Similarly since any injury causes a bit of swelling you will feel a bump at the site which will go back to normal in a few days.
As long as there is no obvious swelling and tenderness don't worry.
Both the bruising and the bump will resolve with time.
