Suggest Treatment For A Painful Bruise With Severe Itching

I recently went hiking in the GA mountains, and scratched my arm on something while hiking, not large, small like 2 cm, scratch looks like a half moon, and now the scratch has a red circle around it, it is getting painful to touch and is itchy? I put antibiotic ointment on it and a small band aid, it make it worse, annoys it. I did not get bit by anything that I am aware of.

Hi,

First of all, it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, if the lesion is getting worst, you may need oral anti-inflammatory drugs like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen alongwith antibiotics orally like augmentin etc to overcome the infection and quick recovery, and also need tetanus vaccination shot.

Meanwhile topical antiseptic or antibiotics may be continued.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
