Suggest Treatment For A Painful Bump On The Labia Majora

Hi, For the last week or so, I have had a soreness on the right side of my mons pubis. This morning I woke up with a dime-sized, half-inch tall bump in the area. The bump seemed to be made up of two parts; a blister filled with clear fluid on top of a puss-filled bump underneath... could you please tell me if this is anything to be worried about? Thanks.

Hello,

From the description, you have given, it sounds that the bump is a simple boil on the surface, which occurs due to an infected hair root or follicle - a common infection.

I suggest that you keep the part clean and dry. Hot compresses will help resolve the infection quickly. I hope you are not diabetic as poor blood sugar controls make one more prone to infections and delays healing. So, it is important to have good control of blood glucose levels. It is important to check if there is a physical or psychological condition that lowers your resistance to infection, especially if it happens repeatedly.

A course of broad spectrum antibiotic such Co-Amoxyclav medicine, three times daily for 7 days along with Ibuprofen and Paracetamol drugs combination for 5 to 7 days may be taken to counter infection and reduce pain and inflammation. It is important to know that there is no penicillin allergy and/ or asthma prior to taking these medications.

Finally, it might be worth paying attention to not sharing personal grooming tools such as shavers, trimmers et cetera. Sometimes it follows waxing where a hair root gets infected.

I hope this helps to reassure you. Please, don’t worries as it sounds like a simple 'boil' that can occur on shin of any part.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sabina Hussain
