Suggest Treatment For A Painful Red Bump On The Buttock

Hi Doctor, my husband has a very painful, hard, red bump on his right butt cheek. At first it seemed like a boil, but when it became hard, it became even more painful. Since past 2 days it is getting worse and since last night he has fever. Can you please tell us what exactly are we dealing with?

My Dear

Welcome to this site!

I have assessed your description and think that problem is due to a Bacterial infection called Pyoderma.

The problem is not difficult to manage.

Please provide him with symptomatic relief with analgesics and Antipyretics.
He needs antibiotics, both locally and by mouth. Mupirocin locally is good choice.

Please ask him to maintain good hygiene and not to press the area.
He will be better placed if he gets his blood sugar levels investigated and possibly a culture of the pus too in case antibiotic needs to be changed.

With these measures he should be well on the way to recovery very soon.
Our best wishes for both of you!
