Suggest Treatment For A Severe Cough

my baby has had a cough for 2 weeks, it gets better and worse, but last night it was really bad, this morning she was chocking with the cough as flem was coming out, so I put saline and succion her nose, she was OK for 10 min and then started couging again. Then I did the nebulizer with ONLY siline solution, she relaxed and I put her to sleep after the threatment on a pillow to raise her head a little, however she was coughing again. after breakfast she was coughing really bad, but it has been 2 hours with a mild cough. another issue is that she does not want her formula and is not eating with the same appetite as before. the doctor saw her on January 3rd and her lungs were OK. She was hopitalized with RSV when she was 7 months and I just do not know if I should take her to the doctor or just keep trying to do the home remedies I have been using.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Cough persistent for 2 weeks is something we need to worry. She needs to be evaluated. As she is better with nebulization, you can continue saline nebulization at home along with cough syrup (Chericof or Ambrolite). I would suggest you to consult a pediatrician to look for any chest symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nirubhan Bharathy, Pediatrician
