Hello,
Mucus in stool is indicative of IBS, ulcerutive
colitis, etc. Other medical conditions that may cause similar symptoms are bacterial infections, Crohn's disease, bacterial / bowel infections,
cystic fibrosis, etc. Get a stool examination (R/E and C/S), CBC, blood tests, imaging tests (X-ray, CT, MRI), X-ray,
endoscopy, etc. Get clinically examined by a GP.
Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected. Avoid stress (emotional and physical) and stay away from
smoking. Stress and bacterial infection cause mucous in stool. Take high fiber food. Avoid high fat and food with gluten as it can trigger mucous in stool.
In the meantime, you can take PPIs for relief from abdominal cramps. If pain persists it is due to bacterial infection, you will be prescribed a course of antibiotics and Spasmol (
spasmoproxyvon). Take anti-diarrheals. Take raw bananas after boiling it. Mash it and put a little salt before eating, it will reduce diarrhea. Keep yourself well hydrated by drinking fluids and ample amount of water.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
