Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Suggest Treatment For Abdominal Pain And Blood In Stools
I have lower abdominal pain and bloody stool. The symptoms started over a week ago when on a ski trip and eating food outside of my normal diet(from a sketchy little restaurant). I went to a doctor and it was diagnosed as enteritis, and I was given a shot(I assume it was penicillin), and medicine to take with meals. The medicine has run out and the symptoms are still present. I am an English teacher in South Korea and so I have some difficulties communicating with my doctor and cultural differences in terms of medical practices. I have hypothryoidism and probably celiac disease (any gluten intake causes diarrhea, so I avoid gluten). I m a 23 year old male.
Lower abdominal pain and bloody stool are suggestive of possible bowel inflammation/infection. Should run further diagnostic tests:
- colonoscopy
- fecal analysis
- stool culture and sensitivity testing
- abdominal ultrasound
You should consult with your caring doctor and take another course of antibiotics (Metronidazole). Should:
- increase fluids intake
- take probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora
- follow BRAT diet (banana, rice, apple sauce, toast)
- take antacids after eating
- take Tasectan or Pepto-Bismol for bowel movements
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini
