Hi, I am having abnormal vaginal discharge. I am on Lutera birth control. My period got done Friday and I had protected sex on Saturday. I usually have normal, white discharge each day but since Sunday it has been brown, and today it has been very chunky and so heavy that I had to use a tampon. What could this be?
As the episode was so soon after the end of the period there is a possibility that old menstrual blood mixed with discharges associated with intercourse gave rise to a thick discharge with abnormal appearance. Lutera per se especially initially when started can give irregular/ intermenstrual bleed. This does settle down as stable hormone levels are achieved.
If the discharge is persisting however we need to check on the health of cervix and vagina. A more detailed history is required. Have you had cervical smears done. I would recommend getting seen by a gynecologist locally who can examine the local area thoroughly and take swabs for infections and do a cervical smear at the same time.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
