Dear Sir,

This is regarding my daughter, Ms Ranjini Bhowmik (date of Birth: 30.3.1993). My daughter was a very jovial and fun-loving child and used to socialze very easily. She was good in studies and could sing and dance well. She scored around 88% in her Class X Board Examination, but she was quite head-strong since her childhood. Since last September 2010 we noticed some changes in her behaviour. She started talking to her mobile phone for long hours (15-16 hours day and almost whole night at times). She slept less and used to talk to her friend(s) till late night. When we scolded her about this, she said that we need not bother about her studies and should check her results only. One night I took away her mobile phone and she became hysteric. She started screaming using very abusive language which is very unbecoming for a girl of her background. On 11th December 2010 we consulted a psychiatric as we suspected that she is taking drugs. Because she started going out every evening around a fixed time and from her conversation we understood that she was meeting few people who are not good company. Whenever we tried to stop her from going out she became violent. The psychiatrist we consulted said that she had abnormally high blood pressure. We were about her ensuing class XII Board Examination (from 28 Feb 2011), so we were not pressurizing her much. On 8th February 2011 she went out with her friends in the morning and returned home completely drunk in the evening. Though the next day she repented a lot and promised to behave properly, within a day or two she went back to old habit of talking over phone for long hours and going out in the evening every day. On 19th February 2011 we consulted another psychiatrist who is attached to a local rehab centre. That very evening we stopped her from going out at her stipulated time and locked her up. She became extremely violent and started breaking everything that was there in the room and at the same time she was crying and singing at the top of her voice. Situation went out of control and we had to shift her to a local rehab centre on that very evening. Since that day (19.2.11) she is confined to that rehab centre and we are not allowed to meet her. The psychiatrist told us that she has confirmed taking multiple drugs but for her treatment she is not yet given any psychotic drug other than sedatives and tranquilizers.

I consulted Dr. Vivek Benegal on phone 27.2.2011 and he advised me send details by e-mail to you for considering her treatment at your Centre at NIMHANS. We would very much like to take our daughter at your hospital immediately. I shall be highly obliged if you kindly give us scope and advise us in the following matters:

1. Can we take her to Bangalore in her present condition or she needs to be sedated for the journey as we intend to take her to the airport directly from the rehab centre at Kolkata?

2. Can a car/ambulance be arranged for her pick up from Bangalore airport as we fear that she might try to run away while we go and search for a cab?

3. Can an ordinary room be arranged at a considerate tariff for three persons who will be accompanying the patient?

Though I am not very financially sound I want to provide the best treatment for my only child in your hospital. I shall be grateful if you consider my daughter’s case and advise me accordingly so that we can take her to NIMHANS as soon as possible.
