Acid refulx is a common problem affecting many people. Try to rule out risk factors which may be contributing to your reflux problem ie. smoking , alcohol , chocolate , caffein , increased abdominal weight , fried food. Ranitidine is an H2 antagonist and helps decrease the amount of acid produced. There is stronger medication such as Omeprazole which is a proton pump inhibitor which will drastically cut down the HCL(Acid) produced by your stomach.
The steps I would recommend : 1 - A course of Antibiotics (Erythromycin 500mg QID) 2 - A proton pump inhibitor Omeprazole daily for 5 days
If the problem still persists I would recommend a scope to rule out other causes of refulx.
