Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic'
Acne is chronic and last for years and even decades.
Acne scaring is a common sequelae of acne, specially inflammatory acne.
Isotretinoin is a drug of choice for acne that has persisted for so long and is also prone to scaring.
It is the only drug that offers any chance of permanent cure in acne patients.
Besides Isotretinoin I will also suggest topical antiacne antibacterial preparations e.g
benzoyl peroxide for active acne spots, to be used once daily during day time.
At night I usually recommend may patients to use a topical retinoid e.g
adapalene gel, to be applied to the whole affected area.
Topical retinoids are antiinflammatory as well as comedolytic and therefore prevent new acne formation while also treating existing ones.
Acne scaring can be greatly improved by certain procedures like chemical peeling,
microdermabrasion, fractional CO 2 Laser, subcision etc.
The choice of procedure and the number of sittings would depend on the severity of acne scaring and can be discussed face-to-face with a
dermatologist.
