Suggest Treatment For Alzheimer's Disease

My friend is in the final stages of alzheimers and is cared for by her husband at home. She does not talk and only walks with support and help. She salivates excessivly and at night frequently requires attention as she chokes and coughs. what can be done to help ?

Hi,

Sorry to know about the condition. Details of medication if any needs to be known before any other treatment could be started. The excessive salivation may not be due to saliva being produced more, rather the inability of your friend to swallow it. Suction machines can be used to remove the saliva. Medications like transdermal scopolamine patches, Nortriptyline or amitriptyline can also be used. Injectable forms or patches would be better. Try to contact your doctor for further treatment, dosage and related side effects.
