Suggest Treatment For Amenorrhoea And Abnormal Prolactin Levels
Hi! I haven't had my menstural periods for over a year. I was put on drug risperdol but have been off it for a few months and still haven't gotten periods. I was also told today that I have an adnormal prolactin level. How to I get this back to normal and how long does it take? Also, what can doctor prescribe to get my periods back?
Hello, Thanks for letting us know your health concern. I have gone through your query and observed some possibilities. 1. Your preexisting clinical condition may have resulted in the absence of menstrual cycles. Medication to treat the same could have added up. 2. The abnormal serum Prolactin levels are another important cause for abnormal menstrual pattern. Correction of the defect using medication often solves the problem. If necessary, an MRI of the brain may be suggested to exclude pathology. 3. Weight gain/loss, which is often associated with neuro-psychiatric disorders, is another cause of menstrual disturbances as the hormone balance is altered. Please do not worry, you have a treatable condition. With medication, you should expect normal periods in a couple of months. Hope this helps.
