I have had an ingrown toenail for over a month now at first it was really painfull so went to out of hours gp who prescribed 10 days flucloxacillin to help clear infection. then once I d finished this course went to gp who prescribed another 10 days flucloxacillin and put silver nitrate on it been back almost weekly and the nurse just puts silver nitrate on it it s still not clearing up, in fact I feel it may be getting worse what should I do next?
Hi. As per your case history of ingrown toe nail, my treatment advice is - 1. Wear loose footwear to avoid pressure on nail. 2. Instead of silver nitrate, apply fusiderm acid cream as it is more effective in your case. 3 . You need a course of higher antibiotic like levofloxacin with NSAID like ibuprofen for 7-10 days. 4. Once infection and pain subsides you can go for nail removal surgery for complete cure.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
