Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hello doctor i am suffering from anal fissure for past 2 months.. it pains like hell. it started due to constipation. n it pains during n after every bowel movement for full day. it bleeds around 6-7 drops. no blood inside the stool only on the surface. i took laxative / stool softner but it when i didnt take it 1 day it pained n bleed alot.. please help!! :-(
I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're having. I see a lot of patients who have anal fissures, and the treatment is the one that you mentioned - stool softners. I'd also increase your fluid intake an make sure you get plenty of fiber. Anal fissures can take a long time to heal, and you have to continue to not strain when you have a bowel movement and definitely make sure your bowel movements are soft (the consistency should be like toothpaste). If your problems continue, I recommend seeing a general surgeon, as there is a surgical procedure known as a lateral internal sphincterotomy that can be done.
I hope this is helpful. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
