Suggest Treatment For Arm Swelling After Insect Bite In A Child

My son had been stung by an insect on his left wrist 3 days ago. I have not administered any medication as i anticipated that the swelling would subside within a day. The swelling has become more bigger and has progressed upto his elbow. He has pain only at the site of the sting. He also is doing fine and has had no other symptoms. Can Benadryl help at this point or do i need to tke him to his pediatrician

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
Is there any fever? Is the area too hot and tender to touch? This might be an allergic reaction to the bite. For such cases I used to give analgesics like Ibuprofen, along with antihistaminic like Benadryl for 3-5 days. Since it is already 3 days, and the swelling is progressive, it will be fine if you can show to pediatrician, as there is chance of secondary infection also.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
