Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.
I went through your history and would like to make suggestions for you as follows:
1. Common side effects of Asthalin (
salbutamol) rotacaps are tremors, palpitations,
increased heart rate, etc. However, inhaled salbutamol is better than tablet salbutamol.
However, if you need to take 2-3 rotacaps daily, it is not recommended as per my opinion. It suggests that your asthma is not well controlled and you need to take regular asthma controller/preventer medications.
2. I usually suggest my such patients regular
montelukast,
levocetirizine and inhaled
corticosteroids for at least 6 weeks. Please use Asthalin (salbutamol) rotacaps for as-and-when-needed use only and not on regular basis.
3. I also do not prescribe decongestant nose sprays (such as otrivin) for more than 3 days at a stretch. As there is possibility of rebound nose congestion/obstruction upon stopping such nose sprays. As suggested above, montelukast and levocetirizine will work for
allergic rhinitis.
3. I would also suggest you allergy testing for common air-borne allergens such as house dust mites, molds, pollens, insect proteins, animal dander, etc. It will help you identify the substances causing allergies to you and also to know how to avoid them.
4. Based on allergy testing, an Allergist-Immunologist may prescribe you allergen specific
immunotherapy which works on immune system to gradually improve allergy symptoms.
5. In general, I would suggest you to avoid exposure to dusts, smokes and air pollution.
6. Regular exercise and a healthy diet will also help you in a long run by improving lung capacity and immunity respectively.
7. I would like to mention here that treatment of asthma requires combination of medicines, immunotherapy, yoga/pranayama/breathing exercises, life style and diet changes. With such combined efforts, one can have a improved life with minimum possible use of medications. Such treatment requires patience and understanding of the disease from patient's side as well.
Hope above suggestions will be helpful to you.
Should you have any further query, please feel free to ask at HCM.
Wish you the best of the health ahead.
Thank you & Regards.
