Suggest Treatment For Back Deformity In A Child

I just found out my 12 year old has this disease. We thought it was Scoliosis but this sounds worse! We were given exercises to do and plan on helping her lose some weight and then the doctor wants to see her again in 6 months. She has a 80% curve right now. Her back already hurts, and now my heart does for her! Why didn t her give her a brace to use? Would that help? What about Chiropratic, Massage or Physio Therapy? Would any of that help? We saw the top children s specialist in the area and want to trust him but this is all so scary!

Hello,

I wish you had included the name of the other disease that sounds worse with the historical information you provided. An 80-degree curve of the spine is an extreme curve. I'm sure this is why your daughter has back pain.

Progressive curves are more common in girls. She did not receive a brace because her curve is too great. The other methods for treating back problems will not be effective either.

What a horrible way to live. To be 12 years old and have daily back pain. Please do not wait six months. Get a second opinion NOW! Let her be evaluated by a pediatric orthopedist who is on the faculty of a major medical center.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Arnold Zedd,
