I m 24 years old, i was diagnosed as suffering from bipolar depression. I was treated with medication and weekly therapy session after the birth of my son five years ago. Being medicated and a single parent didn t work for me so I stop taking the medication. For the last 4 months my depression has become very severe, and although I have spoken to my primary care provider and received a referral to seek mental health care. It has been about 8 weeks since I receive my referral and I still haven t receive my appointment and I feel like my situation is only getting worst. So my question is as follows, should I go to my nearest ER ? Or do I have other options.
Hello young man, Thanks for using healthcaremagic.
As you have told your diagnosis is bipolar depression, treatment is there.
One thing you can restart medicines which you have taken in the past and you would get relief So just consult doctor with past records and your primary care provider can start the treatment.
Another option ask doctor if he is aware about lamotrigine or lithium medicines, these are the best medicines to start the treatment for bipolar depression. So he can evaluate you and you can get the prescription.
Until that keep your diet, sleep and exercise regular at specific schedule to prevent your problem being worsen.
Hope I have answered your query, Regards, Dr.Chintan Solanki.
