Suggest Treatment For Bloating And Bulging In My Kids Stomach

My daughter is 31 mos and has always been the gassy child persay. At times we are very concerned about the bloating and bulge. She would rather drink than eat. Her stomach gets very large and firm to the touch. She is the child that gets sick very easily and goes rounds with bronchialitis. We have discussed this with her pediatrician a few times and did xrays but nothing further. Should we push for a specialist. She is just a little peanut and I don t want to miss something if there is an issue. Thank You Rebecca Z.

All the symptoms you describe are not an unusual combination for the child. While the gassiness and bloating may all be due to what is commonly called "lactose intolerance", repeated attacks of bronchiolitis are not related to the abdominal problems in any way.

Please get a stool tested for lactose intolerance. If this is discovered, she will need lactose-free formula and lactose-free dairy products. This will help her reduce the stomach bloating and gassiness and enable her to put on weight. This, in turn, may improve her immunity sufficiently to protect herself against repeated attacks of respiratory illnesses.
