Suggest Treatment For Blood In Ear Lobe Caused Due To Cleaning
Hello...I need to know what to do with my 5 year old son. He wanted to try and be a "big boy" and clean his own ears after his bath but when he came to tell me what he had done, he was crying and said that it hurt...I looked at it and it seemed to be ok and I calmed him down. He stopped crying and about ten minutes later i saw that a little stream of blood was coming down to his ear lobe...so i gently cleaned that off and asked if he could hear me out of that ear and, also if it was hurting him really bad. he said it wasn't hurting that bad, only alittle and I have been watching it to see if any more blood has leaked out...it hasn't. what should i do? i also gave him some childrens tylenol to help with the pain and he is now asleep

It was probably a mild bruise over the ear drum. Pain and mild bleed from the ear was similar to a bruise over any part of the body. It will heal within a few days' time. An infection should be suspected if there is oozing of pus from the ear. Antibiotic ear drops will prevent secondary bacterial infection while, Tylenol would relieve the pain.
Consult your doctor and apprise him of my opinion. I am certain that he will agree with me, order required tests, and- based on the reports- will prescribe suitable/modified treatment as advised.
