Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a large amount of bright red blood with my bowel movement. Often I have loose stools several times a day which have so much blood I have to flush twice and I wear a pantyliner. Firmer bowel movements have less blood. My guess is either a medication I m taking (such as neorontin) or an internal hemerhoid that may need cauterized. What physician specialist should I consult? My family doctor hasn t been very helpful. Thanks, Jennifer
Bright red blood could be from a hemorrhoid but also could be from colitis a tumor or polyp. It needs to be investigated further. This is usually done by a gastroenterologist who can perform a colonoscopy. It is important to follow up on this symptom and not ignore it or assume it is from hemorrhoids.
