Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
age: 23 height: 5 11 weight : 70kg query : Dr. I have blood in my stools since last 10 days. It comes on alternate days. So I got tested. My hb is 13.8 and my culture report is inconclusive as everything in my microscopic examination is nil too. There are no pus cells, no ova and no cysts or parasites.<So my question why is there blood in my feces and what should I do now?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. Since there is blood in stool, there has to be a reason which in cases takes time or needs repeat investigations if the cause becomes obscure. Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation: You may need a ano-proctoscopy and if it is found to be normal then colonoscopy with biopsy may be needed. Review tests of blood and stool. Watch for any medications like Aspirin that you have taken inadvertently. Take high fiber diet and stool softeners if needed. Upper GI Endoscopy and CT scan in selected cases may be of help if the previous investigations are not sufficient to find the cause.
