Dear Sir, I have been suffering from bloody mucous at stool. Since 1yr after stool when cleaning my anus with finger, bloody mucus comes with the finger after cleaning 4 to 5 times continuously blood disappears and only mucous comes sticking with finger. So plz help me and suggest the treatment.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Bloody mucus is a symptom suggesting certain colon issues and in most cases, it is a sign of benign colon lesions such as hemorrhoids, anal fissure or rectal polyps. These are primarily treated with stool softener, diet, and sitz baths.
If there is no improvement, then surgical management should be considered. Other causes may be more serious and include tumors or inflammatory bowel diseases and these should be ruled out with colonoscopy which must be done if there is low blood count present or rapid weight loss. Otherwise, you can see if conservative therapy will help and consult a proctologist if necessary.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein
