Suggest Treatment For Bloody Stools With Digestion Problems
Hello Dr. Andrew, I m a 20 year old female, I have seen a doctor about my digestion problems (I do not use the bathroom on a regular basis), and I went to the lab to give a specimen sample and I was told that I have blood in my stool. I was also given an x-ray and they said that all things came back positive, they have yet to get in contact with me and it has been a month. I am only getting worse and it s taking a toll on my body.
Blood in stool could be indicative of bleeding from distal/terminal portion of GIT I.e. from large intestine to anus.
If you are having anal fissure then it could be the reason but the other causes must be ruled out like large bowel obstruction, ulcerative colitis, intussuception etc.
You may require thoroughly clinical examination with proctoscopy and colonoscopy to rule out any other lower GIT etiologies.
You may require antibiotics (quinolones-ofloxacin with antiprotozoals- metronidazole/ornidazole) with topical steroids and antihistamines to prevent bleeding if it is coming from anus otherwise treatment is mainly depend on the underlying cause.
