Suggest Treatment For Borderline Thyroid

Hi, This is Neelambika, I was having borderline thyorid TSH is 7.01 2 months back.Doctor suggested me to go for 50mcg eltroxin tablet i have continued same tablets for 2 months.Now again i done blood test.My TSH 0.67 .Doctor said your tsh is hsowing normal again she suggested to continue with 25mcg thryonorm another 3 months.My question when TSH is normal why to continue with tablets?Do i need to continue this 25mcg for lifelong?.Please reply

Thyroid hormone replacement is a lifelong medication. You will have to adjust the dose several times throughout your life especially with pregnancy, weight changes, or estrogen supplementation. Once stabilized, periodic TSH level should be done after 6 months and then at 12-month intervals or more frequently if the clinical situation dictates otherwise. There are also several medications that can interact with thyroid hormone replacement. If you do not take the hormone, you go into a coma which has a 30-60% mortality. Hypothyroidism can also result in developing severe heart issues.
