Suggest Treatment For Bruise On Shin After Hitting
Hit a wet spot next to my vehicle and slid into it, with my shin right below the knee taking all the force of the impact with the bottom of my car when it hit at a 45-degree angle. It s bruised up down the front of my leg and around the calf, feels stiff when it swells, and my toes have been cold/numb since. I guess my question is - how much longer should I continue to ice? Until the swelling/heat at the spot of impact subsides?

Hello, Thanks for your query.
I have gone through your query carefully and it looks to be severe soft tissue injury of muscles leading to internal bleeding and this in turn leads to raised temperature and bruise. You should continue the icing for about 20 minutes once in every 2 hours for first 48 hours. I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance. You can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid putting weight and rest well. I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
