Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 11month old baby fell and hit his head on an edge of a cupboard about 3 weeks ago. There is a slight bruise until now, but when he opens his eyes wide, a line/dent can be seen. When we feel the bruise, there is something hard but we are not sure if it is the skull that is dented or just an unhealed bruise. Would appreciate some advice. Thank you.
If he had no loss of consciousness or recurrent vomiting following the fall, chance of any significant injury is extremely unlikely. The ridge you see on opening eyes is the normal ridge between facial muscles that becomes prominent on contraction during crying, smiling or eye opening. Hard feeling also might be normal skull. A dent might have caused sever pain for few hours along with overlying swelling. In short, there is nothing to worry. The bruise will disappear in another couple of weeks. Stay relaxed.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
