Suggest Treatment For Bruised Nail After An Injury
About 3 weeks ago, I caught my thumb in the car door. It immediately began to turn black at the bottom of the nail. It doesn t seem to be getting better. While I realize that bruises to nails probably take a while to heal, is there a way to treat the nail with anything that might speed up the process.
Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
I will keep a possibility of sunungual hematoma. It is actually an accumulation of blood beneath the nail plate. As a result the affected nail develops a bluish black discoloration overlying the nail bed but under the nail plate. The nail plate is avascular. The bleeding comes from the vascular nail bed underlying the avascular nail plate. Subungual hematoma typically resolve without incident, though infection or disruption of the nail (onycholysis) may occur. To hasten the resolution, I would suggest an oral Vitamin C supplement once daily
